I’ve got all of Florence at my feet.
We have arrived and settled in after a few days of general confusion and jet lag. We’ve found the grocery store and market, are learning to sort our trash correctly, and have only gotten lost a few times. So glamorous, I know.
But despite this and the forecast (which has called for rain every day so far), the city is beautiful and so very real. Sure, every alleyway looks like something from a movie or photography collection, but there’s some indescribable quality that the city has that makes each part seem so alive. I’m excited to begin classes tomorrow, and to learn about the history of the city and the architecture of this beautiful country. If you don’t learn about what you’re looking at, I don’t believe you really see anything.
In the meantime, I’ll just keep exploring.

Oh, the places you’ll go.
Tomorrow I will board a plane for Florence, Italy for a summer of adventure. It’s impossible to believe that the time is already here, but my bag is packed (to exactly 50 lbs—take that, TSA) and I’m ready to go. I can’t wait to see all there is to see, and hear all there is to hear, and taste all there is to taste…
But the half marathon I’m running with the boy in October won’t wait for me. Seeing Europe and staying in shape seem like they’ll go hand in hand, and I can’t wait to see all the places where these feet will take me.
The boy and I spent yesterday traipsing around CT to cross some things off of our Summer Bucket List—an especially difficult task to accomplish when I’ll be heading to Italy in a few days and he’ll be heading to New Mexico for the next few months.
Either way we made the most of it—hiking through Gillette Castle State Park, shopping at the outlets (hello, gorgeous new Fossil watch!!), dinner on the beach, and then off to the movies to see The Great Gatsby!
Best of all, for my birthday he is getting me tickets to fly out to NM to visit him! That will make the summer so much easier, knowing that at least once we’ll be able to spend some time together.
